From December 6 to 8, 2019, Chicago hosted the 7th Serbian Film Festival titled "Towards Light, Without Borders". This Festival marked the 20th anniversary of the NATO bombing of Serbia. The organizer of the festival, Ms. Slavica Petrovic, is also the owner / editor of “Mirror" – the local newspaper in the Serbian language. Before the opening of the festival, new Acting Consul General Mr. Milan Varadinvic made a brief speech about the importance of the preservation of the cultural identity.

After the screening of the short introductory film "Towards the Light," the festival was opened by Milos Bikovic, producer and actor of the first screened film "Balkan Border." Guests at the festival included Mr. Petar Ristovski - director of film "King Peter the First", Mr. Miodrag Radonjic - actor and co-producer of the film "South Wind" and "Balkan Border", Mrs. Danica Ristovski - actress and Mrs. Teodora Ristovski - actress, as well as Mr. Milos Rastovic, one of the leaders of the Serbian National Federation of Pennsylvania (SNF is the oldest Serb association in the US) and the director of the film "Tesla's People", who also spoke of his film.

On the occasion of the Film Festival, a press conference was held in the premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia on Saturday, December 7th, with participation of all guests of the Festival. On this occasion State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nemanja Stevanovic spoke about the incentive measures of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for development of the film industry.
The press conference was moderated by journalist and writer Mila Filipovic and was followed by local media: RTV Avala, Srpska TV and Chicago Events.
