With auspicies of the Office of the Mayor of Chicago, a Consular Gala was held on November 1, 2019, attended by representatives of 87 Consulates General accredited in Chicago, institutions, businesses and other distinguished officials.

After protocol call with the Major Lory Lightfoot and official introduction of all the heads of the Consulates present, Mayor Lightfoot addressed all the guests, emphasizing the positive role played by immigrants in building a multicultural Chicago. On this occasion, the Dean of the Consular Chorps, Mrs. Patricia Maza-Pittsford, presented the "Global Citizen" awards to the representatives of the sponsors, as well as to the former president of the Office of Sister Cities.

The event, which began with the modest initiative of a small number of Consulates General - including the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia, was soon recognized by the Mayor's Office as an opportunity to promote Chicago as an open city.

Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia was represented by Acting Consul General Mr. Milan Varadinovic and former Consul General Desko Nikitovic, one of the founders and guest of honor of the event, who kindly introduced now Acting Consul General to his friends and business associates.
