Special Olympics were founded in 1968 in America as a program that promotes sports activities in various Olympic sports for people with intellectual deficiency. Since then, more than 150 countries have joined in this program, and the program now has over 4 million athletes. Since 1988, Special Olympics are an associate member of the International Olympic Committee. Special Olympics of Serbia were founded in 2002 and since then enable people with special needs to a better integration in society through sports and sports activities. Since 2003 until today, Serbian representatives have participated in several Special Olympics and other competitions and have achieved significant results in them.
