In reference to the deaths and suffering of victims of the devastating flooding in the Republic of Serbia, Mayor of the City of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel forwarded a letter to Acting Consul General with the following message:

”As Mayor and on behalf of the City of Chicago, I would like to express my deepest condolences to you and the people of Serbia as your country  is suffering  from the devastation of mass flooding and landslides.

The people of Chicago stand together with the citizens of Serbia as we reflect on this disaster. The City of Chicago and the Republic of Serbia share a long history of friendship as evidenced by our Sister City relationship with Belgrade since 2005. This relationship remains unyielding in times of joy as well as sorrow. In this difficult time, know that our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those affected by the flooding and landslides.

I hope that you find some solace knowing that the people of Chicago`s  thoughts are with you and the Serbian people”.
