ISSUING VISAS

U.S. citizens do not need visas to travel to the Republic of Serbia. Passport must be valid for a minimum of three months after the intended date of departure from the Republic of Serbia.

Holders of U.S.Travel Documents (Permit to Re-enter, Refugee Travel Document) require a visa for entry into the Republic of Serbia.

If you do not have a U.S. passport, please check here to see if you need a visa to travel to the Republic of Serbia. Foreign nationals who have a valid US visa or lawful residence in the United States (green card) may enter the Republic of Serbia without visas and stay no longer than 90 days within six month period. Visa must be valid for the whole duration of stay in the Republic of Serbia. Also, foreign nationals who have a valid Schengen visa, UK visa or other European Union member-states visa may enter the Republic of Serbia without a visa and stay longer than 90 days within six month period. The possibility of entering the Republic of Serbia without a visa is valid beginning November 8th, 2014.  Above does not apply to foreign nationals who are holders of emergency travel documents or travel documents for refugees and aliens.

Foreigner with multiple citizenships shall be considered national of the country that has issued the travel document he used to enter into the Republic of Serbia. During the stay in and upon departure from the Republic of Serbia, the foreigner must use the travel document of the country he used to enter into the Republic of Serbia.

 

TYPES OF VISAS


The types of visa are as follows:


I short-term visa (visa C)
II  long-term visa (Visa D)



 

I VISA C (short-term visa for a stay of up to 90 days)

Short-term visa is a permission to enter into the Republic of Serbia, transit over the territory of the Republic of Serbia or stay in the territory of the Republic of Serbia for up to 90 days within any period of 180 days, from the date of first entry. Short-term visa may be issued for single, double or multiple entries into the Republic of Serbia.

Required documents for visa C:

  1. Valid passport (passport must be valid for a minimum of three months after the intended date of departure from the Republic of Serbia, with at least two consecutive blank pages).
  2. Completed Visa Application Form (Form must be filled out clearly, in printed letters; the applicant must fill all columns/questions and state correct residential address in USA – no P.O. Box is acceptable.  For minor children the form is filled and signed by their parents).
  3. Photo (Size 3,5cm x 4,5 cm)
  4. Invitation letter – not older than 6 months. (For a private visit, a certified invitation letter from a relative or a friend from Serbia is required. If applying for a business visa, please enclose (a) an official invitation from the company in Serbia, stating the nature of the business, expected duration of the visit as well as the name and address of the company or institution you are visiting. Invitation letter, as well as (b) a letter from the U.S. company which you are representing. Legal or private entity that provides a guarantee to a foreigner, which obliges him/her to bear the costs of their accommodations and removal if they can not collect from the said foreigner, shall be required to present a certified copy of the guarantee to the competent authority based on the place of residence of the foreigner. If the visa requirement relates to a tourist trip, the proof is required as voucher or hotel reservation. If the visa requirement relates to transit through the territory of the Republic of Serbia, visa is required from the country entered after the transit through the Republic of Serbia. If a visa is not required for that country, another proof of entry or stay in that country is required.
  5. Proof of residence in the U.S.A. (photocopy of Alien Registration Card, Working Permit, Student’s Visa).
  6. Proof of sufficient funds for staying in Serbia (50 euros per day in Serbia). It is considered to be cash, an extract from a bank account or a bank receipt on account transactions for the last three months.
  7. Travel health insurance for the period of stay in Serbia.
  8. Stamped, self-addressed return envelope with pre-paid return postage (envelope is not required if applying in person at the Consulate General).
  • Total fees for a visa are 95 dollars. If the request is sent by mail it must contain Money Order payable to "Consulate General of Serbia Chicago". Visa application fee is non- refundable. If the visa is not approved the applicant will be refunded the amount of $2.
  • Citizens of Armenia, China, Mali, Pakistan, Syria pay only handling costs for visa issuance in the amount of $2. If the request is sent by mail it must contain Money Order payable to "Consulate General of Serbia Chicago".  If the visa is not approved the applicant will be refunded the ammount of $2.     

Note: Incomplete applications can not be taken into consideration and will be returned to the applicants at  their own expense.

 

II VISA D (Long-term visa)

Long-term visa is a permission to enter and stay in the territory of the Republic of Serbia between 90 and 180 days.  Visa D is issued to a foreigner who, in accordance with the visa regime for entry into the Republic of Serbia requires a visa, and who in the Republic of Serbia intends to apply for a temporary stay.
U.S. citizens who intend to apply for temporary stay in the Republic of Serbia do not need to apply for a D visa (long-term visa) but need to apply for a temporary stay directly upon arrival in the Republic of Serbia. Details regarding the temporary stay can be found here. This also applies to citizens of other countries who do not require a visa to enter the Republic of Serbia.

A foreigner who enters the Republic of Serbia without a visa on the basis of permanent residence in the United States (green card) or on the basis of a valid U.S. visa, can not apply for temporary stay; it is necessary to first apply for a D visa (long-term visa) which allows for the regulation of temporary stay upon arrival in the Republic of Serbia.

Required documents for visa D:

  1. Valid passport (passport must be valid for a minimum of three months after the intended date of departure from the Republic of Serbia, with at least two consecutive blank pages).
  2. Completed Visa Application Form (Form must be filled out clearly, in printed letters; the applicant must fill all columns/questions and state correct residential address in USA – no P.O. Box is acceptable.  For minor children the form is filled and signed by their parents).
  3. Photo (Size 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm)
  4. Proof of residence in the USA (photocopy of Green Card, Working Permit, Student’s Visa);  Entry visa to the country to which you are traveling. If visa is not required for that country, other proof of stay in said country is required.
  5. Proof of the purpose and reasons for staying in the Republic of Serbia (see below which documents need to be submitted depending on the basis on which the temporary stay is required).
  6. Health insurance for the period of stay in Serbia.
  7. Proof of sufficient funds for staying in Serbia (50 euros per day in Serbia). It is considered to be cash, an extract from a bank account or a bank receipt on account transactions for the last three months.
  8. Stamped, self-addressed return envelope with pre-paid return postage (envelope is not required if applying in person at the Consulate General).

Reasons for stay in Serbia and required documents:

EMPLOYMENT:
- employment  contract,  work  contract,  business and technical cooperation agreement, sports engagement or other document proving the work engagement of a foreign citizen in the Republic of Serbia;

- certificate of the registration of a legal entity, business entity, sports club or association or entrepreneur in the Republic of Serbia.

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZATION, SCIENTIFIC-RESEARCH WORK, PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
- certificate of enrollment in an educational institution. In the case of scientific-research an signed contract with a scientific-research organization;

- a copy of the registration of an educational institution as a legal entity in the Republic of Serbia.

FAMILY REUNION:
- when the spouse is a citizen of the Republic of Serbia: a marriage certificate issued by a competent authority of the Republic of Serbia, not older than six months;
- In the case of extramarital communion with a citizen of the Republic of Serbia: certificate of free marital status, statements of extra-marital partners and notarized statements of two witnesses regarding the partner's communion, proof of the joint address of the residence, if they have a joint child - birth certificate of the child.

RELIGIOUS SERVICE:
- certificate of registration of a church or religious community in the Republic of Serbia;
- an employment contract or a letter from a church or religious community confirming that an alien is engaged as a priest or religious official.

MEDICAL TREATMENT OR CARE:
- a letter from the health institution in the Republic  of  Serbia stating  the  place  and  the necessary period of treatment;
- a decision on the registration of a health institution in the Republic of Serbia;
- a decision on the registration of a social care institution in the Republic of Serbia.

OWNERSHIP ON THE REAL ESTATE:
- excerpt from the list of real estate property (title, deed);
- a certified sales contract or a gift contract;
- a probate certificate or a court inheritance order.

 

  • Total fees for a visa D are $49. If the request is sent by mail it must contain Money Order payable to "Consulate General of Serbia Chicago". Visa application fee is non-refundable. If the visa is not approved the applicant will be refunded the amount of $2.
